Understand the potential risks to your family’s digital life, such as online threats, device security, and personal information protection. Implement measures to safeguard your family’s devices, data, and online activities.

Level 1 – Basic

  • List all of the IP devices in your household, including:
    • Computer and Laptops
    • Mobile Devices and Tablets
    • Gaming Consoles
    • Smart Devices (i.e. Appliances, TVs, Thermostats, etc.)
    • Video Cameras
  • Install trusted antivirus and anti-malware software and keep it up to date
  • Verify updates on all devices at least monthly
  • Secure your home Wi-Fi with a strong password and modern encryption
  • Enabled MFA on critical accounts like email and online banking
  • Use basic DNS controls to prevent malware and other unsavory content

Level 2 – Advanced

  • Use a password manager for all of your household accounts
  • Create strong, unique accounts for each account and device
  • Enable MFA on all accounts
  • Turn on automatic updates for all devices
  • Use advanced DNS and other home monitoring tools for home network

Level 3 – Tin Foil Hat

  • Use a hardware security key for multi-factor authentication
  • Encrypt all sensitive files and backups
  • Use VPN to access the Internet, especially when using public Wi-Fi
  • Use a separate device for sensitive online activities
